Reading the results
No matching records and an unavailable query are different outcomes. TTLs are displayed in seconds; zero is a valid TTL. A completed request does not mean a domain passed its health checks. Only the submitted DNS owner and explicitly listed checks are inspected.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the SOA value only show a primary nameserver?
The server response used by this page maps the SOA primary nameserver into Target / Value. It does not expose serial, refresh, retry, expiry, or minimum values as separate visible fields.
Why is no SOA record returned?
The queried name may not be a zone boundary, the domain may be incorrect, or DNS may not answer the request. Try the registrable domain and confirm that it is delegated.
Does every subdomain have its own SOA record?
No. A subdomain has a separate SOA only when it starts an independently delegated zone. Most subdomains use their parent zone's authority data.
Can SOA data tell me which registrar manages the domain?
No. SOA describes DNS zone authority and timing data. Registrar information belongs to the domain registration system and is not a visible output here.
Why did the SOA answer change after moving DNS providers?
The new provider publishes its own zone authority record. Cached copies of the earlier SOA can remain visible until their TTL expires.
Is the SOA TTL the same as every record in the zone?
No. The TTL displayed for the SOA answer applies to that answer. Other record sets can publish different cache lifetimes.
